Attendance Appeals Process For Students
If a student is absent 7 or more days during a half year course, or 13 or more in a full year class, credit for the class is lost. Students may appeal the loss of credit if they have good reason for the absences and have a passing grade in the class.
To appeal the loss of credit, students must do the following:
- Get an appeal form from the counseling office or online
- Fill the form out completely, including dates of absences, reason for the absences, and the reason credit should be restored
- Bring the form to their counselor and explain why credit should be restored
- The counselor brings the appeal case to the CARE Team who review the form and make a decision to restore credit or deny the appeal. In some cases, credit may be held in abeyance pending an improvement in attendance for the remainder of the year
- The counselor notifies the student about the CARE Team decision
