Midterm Exam Procedures and Attendance:
STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING THEMSELVES FAMILIAR WITH THE EXAM SCHEDULE AND REPORTING TO THEIR EXAMS ON TIME AND PREPARED.
On exam days, attendance is required in all classes, excluding study halls. Students who do not report to their exams as scheduled will receive a zero “0” unless contact is made between the school and parent and an acceptable excuse is given. The parent or guardian of a student who is absent from an exam due to illness must call the attendance office at 437-6964 and notify the school on the morning of the exam.
Students are expected to take exams during the time and on the day scheduled. Absences due to circumstances other than illness must be approved by administration in advance, and must be for reasons that meet the “excused absence” criteria in the Student Handbook (p. 17 & 35-36). Students must be on time for exams. Students who are more than 10 minutes tardy will need administrative approval to be permitted into the classroom. Students will have to receive administrative approval to make up an exam. Without administrative approval, students will receive an “0” on the exam.
No student will be allowed to leave an exam before the scheduled time, except in the case of a medical emergency. Students are to remain in class for the entire period of the exam. Dismissal notes will not be honored when it involves the time frame of an exam.
All school regulations and rules remain in effect during exams, including the rules regarding the school dress code.
Reminder: Cell phones should be turned off and away. This is especially important during exams because of the potential inappropriate use of the cell phone.
Students only need to come to school when they have exams scheduled. If students are at school when they do not have an exam, they must be in the library, cafeteria, or in a teacher’s classroom if that teacher is present, does not have an exam that block, and has given the student prior permission to meet with them at that time.
Helpful Study Tips: To help you assist your children in preparing for exams, here are a few study pointers you can reinforce with them:
- Use the study materials teachers provide
- Develop and follow a study schedule
- Don’t wait until the last minute to study
- Study in reasonable chunks with frequent (short) breaks
- Get a good night’s sleep every night
- Study the most important information first
- Eat a good breakfast
- Worry, but not too much. Midterms are important and should have students concerned about their performance, but not so anxious that they make themselves sick about the exams.
