Complete a Free and Reduced School Meal Application Today!
Waterford School Dining and Nutrition
Services is proud to be able to continue offering free meals to all students
thanks to a waiver granted by the USDA through June 2022. However, a new
round of applications for Free and Reduced Meals for the 2021-2022 School Year
has just opened.
It is very important
to complete an Application for Free & Reduced Meals for the following
reasons:
- School meal applications are good for
more than just free meals.
- A Free and Reduced Lunch application
can be used to determine eligibility for:
- Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits to help purchase food, Holiday
baskets
- Discounted school fees, SAT/ACT or AP testing fee waiver
- College Application fee waiver, scholarships, field trips/prom/cap
& gown fee waiver
- Discounted phone service, Free or reduced internet service
- Schools receive important education
funding and resources based on the number of free and reduced
applications.
Even as our district continues to provide
free meals to all students, we still ask families to please submit school meal
applications. If you completed one prior to June 30, 2021, you will need to
complete a new one for the 2021-22 school year. Only one application is needed
per family. If you have more than one child attending a school in our
district, you only need to submit one application for all children and this
application will be good until October 2022.
Applying for free school meals is fast,
easy, and secure. Even if you think you may not qualify, we encourage families
to submit an application. Online applications are available on our website at https://www.waterfordschools.org/parents_family/food_services
or you may pick up a paper copy in our Food
Services office at Town Hall. To request a paper copy, please call Waterford
School Dining and Nutrition Services at 860-444-5807 and we will be happy to
assist you or answer any questions.
Please note that families also can
submit a new application if something changes, such as a parent or other
member’s job status, loss of job or reduced hours. Only one application per
family is needed; however, families must fill out a new meal application each
school year. Applications are completely confidential and can be completed by
all families enrolled in our school district.
There are no immigration requirements to
participate in the Free & Reduced Meal program. If one or more
people in your household receives benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), or
the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or if your child
is classified as homeless, runaway, or migrant, then your child is
categorically eligible for free school meals. You should receive notification
from your child’s school that your child can receive free school meals. If you
fall into one of these categories and have not been notified that your child is
certified for free school meals, please contact Dianne Houlihan, Director of
School Dining and Nutrition Services at 860-444-5862 or email [email protected].
