Appointment of Principal of Waterford High School

At the July 7, 2022 Waterford Board of Education Special Meeting, Mr. Kirk Samuelson was appointed as the Principal of Waterford High School. Mr. Samuelson will officially begin this role on July 14, 2022. Mr. Samuelson will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mr. Andre Hauser.

Mr. Samuelson brings eighteen (18) years of professional experience in education to his new administrative role in Waterford. He holds a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Quinnipiac University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University.

Mr. Samuelson currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Waterford High School, a position that he has held since 2016.  Prior to this role he was the K-12 Science Curriculum Leader for the Madison Public Schools, as well as the Science and Health Program Coordinator (Department Chair) at Daniel Hand High School in Madison.  Mr. Samuelson taught for eight (8) years in the Guilford Public Schools as a high school science teacher.  Prior to his career in education, he worked in restaurant management and operations.

At the July 7th Special Meeting, Superintendent Giard noted “Over these last six years, [Mr. Samuelson]  has developed a reputation amongst staff and families as an administrator who is approachable; a listener; and a consensus builder…he possesses a deep knowledge of quality teaching and learning and has articulated a clear vision for Waterford High School.”  Superintendent Giard discussed the interview process with administration and the Board and in closing stated “I was fortunate enough six years ago to hire [Mr. Samuelson] and Waterford is fortunate to have someone of his stature now to lead Waterford High School into this new era.”

On behalf of the Waterford Public School District, we congratulate Mr. Samuelson.  We are excited to see the direction that he provides the students and staff at Waterford High School and the leadership that he will bring in this new role.
